Amazing food, fast service, and beautiful experience inside. My girlfriend moved here from Myanmar recently and brought me to this restaurant because this location makes the best and most accurate food from her home country. So delicious! 100% recommended
I have been going to Amay's house since it's original location on either Fraser or Victoria drive. I was super sad when they closed down but I'm now so excited that they are open even closer to me! I love the food here so much. It's family owned and really small inside but it's so comfortable. Anything with lamb here is delicious. The lamb curry was amazing and so is the lamb prata. The chicken biryani is a classic. Definitely try some papaya salad too! If you are craving noodles then I suggest the pad thai! I will definitely be coming back here again!
First time trying Burmese food and it didn’t disappoint. This is a bit of a hole in the wall, but food was tasty with big portions. Dishes were affordable as well.
Picked up a bunch of the favourites from the house and loved it. It was my first time having Burmese food and I found the flavours are pretty intense; the biryani with roasted chicken was the one that I would definitely order again. Highly recommend for a different culinary experience.
I visited this store years ago when they were located on Victoria Street. After shutting down that store, I’m glad to discover this new location by chance. The tea leave salad & mohinga are delicious. The potato/onion stuffing of samosas are cut into small dices, quite different from the Indian version. There’re more choices on the menu & I will definitely return to try out other dishes. The young waitress is extremely friendly & thorough in cleaning the table & I pay my respect to her. I hope they offer an option of putting the fried bean sheet on the side instead of soaking it into the noodle soup.
We had the keema prata and the Burmese tea leaf salad for a light lunch even though everything on the menu looked so tasty. The keema prata is a lamb stuffed pocket of dough. It seems to be pan fried. It is golden, crispy and full of savory, juicy substance. Really really good. You get the nice crispy flakiness of the dough followed by the buttery melt in your mouth combination of meat and spices. There is a complexity of flavor and yet it is delicate and light at the same time. The burmese tea leaf salad was actually quite delicious! It was refreshing, sweet and sour. Not bitter like you'd expect but you can taste the subtleness of tea leaves. Kind of smoky, almost. And very fragrant! My favorite part was the texture. It's very intricate-- it has these great crispy crunchy bits that elevate the experience, and then the familiar texture and taste of peanuts that were fun to eat. Overall, I am super interesting in trying more. I will like to try their noodle and soup dishes like mohinga. In terms of atmosphere, it is a nice, simple yet cozy and unfussy area. It's cutely decorated. I really like it.
Updated review in April 2025 (from July 2024) - has become my go-to place for take-out! I haven't ordered the Shrimp Fried Rice since, but my current favorite items are the Special Basil Leaf Fried Rice, Stir Fry Vermicelli Noodle, and Shan Noodles. Good amount of ingredients and quite fragrant (the fried rice and Shan Noodles). The majority of dishes are still only 15 and the portion size is enough for two meals. I only take-out and haven't eaten in, so can't speak to the service, but it's been friendly when picking up and making payment. ------ Ordered some dishes for takeout from Amay's House! We aren't very familiar with Burmese cuisine, so didn't know what to expect, but ended up ordering primarily Asian dishes. The Shrimp Fried Rice was alright. It did have a fair number of shrimp, but they were small in size and quite tough and overcooked. The Stir Fry Vermicelli Noodle was a tad dry and would've benefited from more sauce. Good amount of vegetables though! The Basil Eggplant had a house made sweet soy chili sauce that was excellent, great flavour and we used all the leftover sauce! Each dish was 15. Our group did feel a bit uncomfortable as we placed our order for takeout, and were left standing at the counter. There were a couple of chairs at the entrance that we helped ourselves to later. In other restaurants, the front counter staff might offer water/tea while waiting or verbally gesture to the seats. After we ordered and paid, there was no additional communication until our orders were ready. Overall, for the portions, it's an affordable option in the area and I'd probably return to try some other dishes.
One of my favorite restaurants in all of Vancouver. The laksa here might just be one of top 5 dishes - ever. Also had the roti with chicken curry and that too is absolutely fantastic. I would put the laksa here up against any other dish you could find in Vancouver.
